The Atoms

Up and coming alternative rock band
The Atoms are soon to release their largely
anticipated debut album: “When Will We
Get Famous?” This young band from the
North-East of England have came a long
way since their first gig in the back garden
of their  former guitarist Robert Owens’
home who was somewhat evicted from the
band after causing major disruption after
the event which was described by
Paul (Rhythm Guitar) at our interview:

“We were just jammin’ in Bob’s garage
(our usual spot) and we’d been there
a while and we were canny hungry, so
me and Ryan [Lead] decided to run into
the house and start stealing his food,
this was hilarious. Naturally, Bob wasn’t
too happy about this and, with his eyes
a-blaze, he chased us out of his house,
and SOMEHOW the door handle fell off.
Now the only thing we could do now, we
thought… would be funny to lock him inside
his own house. In the end, he ended up
grabbing me by my shirt and pushing
me on the road, so yea… s**t went down.”

Paul, Ryan and Liam have all known each
other for years before they formed The
Atoms and say that the new album is a
combination of songs about events
before and after the formation of the
band and here at the printing studios,
we are greatly looking forward to it.
With roots ranging from indie, brit pop
and alternate rock this album has the
potential to have a widely ranged audience,
and therefore become a hugely successful
album, which would be great for
this young band’s debut.

We watched the band during their gig
at the upstairs room of the Newcastle 02
Academy. This was the first gig they have
played since they first released the news
 that their debut album will
be released later  this
year, so this was an important
gig. “We wanted to showcase our new album,
without giving the whole thing away; this was
the first time we’ve played our new material,
so we were all very nervous.” –Ryan. We
caught up with the band after the gig, and they
all said  something very similar, it seems that
they are trying to keep the new material
undercover for now, besides the cracking
new single “Girls” of course.

Although young, this band have huge potential,
talent and even with the small amount of
experience they have, we’re sure that after
signing to “XL Recordings”  they will be helped
and guided in the right direction of the
rock and roll life style.

And Here at Skadoosh
Magazine,we wish them
the best of luck.
